The aim of Melanoma Monday is to raise awareness about melanoma. Melanoma is an aggressive form of skin cancer in which cells within moles on the skin becoming malignant (cancerous) and can spread rapidly to other areas of the body if left untreated.
Melanoma is the deadliest type of skin cancer, but it is preventable. Experts recommend using a sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 every day, even on cloudy days. Beyond the block, the American Academy of Dermatology says you should stay covered with clothing, a hat and sunglasses, and stay in the shade whenever possible.
